Congressman Kim Statement on President-Elect Biden Nominations

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement in response to the announcement of key nominations by President-Elect Biden to foreign policy and national security leadership positions:

"Good government requires good people, and a good foreign policy and national security strategy requires professionals who put service to their country first. These nominations by President-Elect Biden give me hope that the incoming administration will not only take seriously the issues facing America on a global stage, but will do the hard work to bring our allies together and reestablish America's leadership in the world.

I have had the honor of working side by side with Tony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Avril Haines, and Secretary Kerry in the Situation Room where I worked with them on some of the toughest challenges in the world, and I have long admired Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Alejandro Mayorkas. Their expertise should give the American people confidence that they will perform these critical roles ably for our national security, and their dedication to service should give our allies confidence that they will represent the best of America.

I look forward to seeing these nominees swiftly confirmed by the Senate and will work alongside President-Elect Biden's team to advance America's interests and promote progress throughout the world."

Congressman Kim is a member of the bipartisan House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis, where he serves as one of twelve members of the House tasked with conducting oversight over programs aimed at ending the Coronavirus pandemic and helping address the economic impact it's having on the American people. Congressman Kim is also a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Small Business.

Prior to serving in Congress, Congressman Kim served in Afghanistan as Strategic Advisor to Generals David Petraeus and John Allen. Kim went on to serve as Director of Iraq in Obama's National Security Council where he coordinated the crisis response to countering the rise of ISIS.
