Congressman Kim Statement on His Appointment to the
House Committee on Foreign Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement in response to being appointed to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

"The global leadership of the United States is at a critical juncture, and the pandemic and rise of China has raised a new era of threats and uncertainty. Over the past year, we have seen full force that what starts abroad ultimately has real impact here at home. From the coronavirus crisis to the climate crisis, these kinds of transnational challenges require transnational solutions. I look forward to bringing my experience in foreign policy to the House Foreign Affairs Committee and working alongside my colleagues from both parties to find common ground and common purpose. My continued service on the Armed Services Committee will complement this work and allow me to engage in a strategic approach to our national security across our diplomatic, economic, and military efforts. I also expect to continue my work on the Small Business Committee to ensure we build strong here at home.

I look forward to working alongside the President-elect's foreign policy team, many of whom I've served with for years. Having worked at the White House National Security Council, the State Department, the Pentagon and USAID, I know the importance of having good partners in Congress and will work to serve as a bridge between the Executive and Legislative branches as we strive to find ways to promote stability, democracy and safety throughout the world."

Congressman Kim is a member of the House Armed Services Committee where he serves as the vice chair of the Subcommittee on Readiness. The Congressman is also a co-chair of the House Democratic National Security Task Force. Prior to serving in the House, Congressman Kim worked as a career public servant under both Democrats and Republicans. He served at USAID, the Pentagon, the State Department, the White House National Security Council, and in Afghanistan as an advisor to Generals Petraeus and Allen.
