Congressman Kim Announces Congressional Art Competition Winner from NJ-03
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) announced that Ariel Etzel, a 12th grade student from Point Pleasant Borough High School in Point Pleasant, NJ has won the Congressional Art Competition from New Jersey's 3rd Congressional District. Ariel's painting, entitled, "Colors in Bloom", is currently displayed in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
"Ariel's painting is beautiful and reminds me of the stunning wildflowers that I see throughout New Jersey in the Spring. I'm so proud of Ariel and to have such talent in Ocean and Burlington Counties," said Congressman Kim. "The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to showcase her artwork for the entire country, and I'll smile every time I pass by her painting in the U.S. Capitol."
"I am someone who loves to admire flowers, so I was very intrigued by the bright colors and the details the close-up view yielded," said Etzel. "It was interesting to use a variety of colors to get the proper shading and detail of each petal."
The Congressional Art Competition is held each spring and is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The competition is open to all high school students and the winning artwork is displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will include the winning artwork from all participating districts from around the country. The winning artwork is also featured on House.gov's Congressional Art Competition page.
