CONGRESSMAN ANDY KIM REQUESTS PAY BE WITHHELD DURING GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03) released the following statement after formally requesting that his pay be withheld during the ongoing government shutdown.

“Tomorrow, federal workers, including many in New Jersey, will miss their paychecks for the first time since the shutdown.  As a former federal employee who worked through a previous shutdown, I stand with our workers and their families by not taking a paycheck until they get paid.  I have formally requested that my own pay be withheld until the shutdown is over,” Kim said.  “The pain and financial hardship placed on 800,000 federal workers as a result of this government shutdown is unnecessary and unacceptable, particularly since it affects so many of those tasked with protecting our country and our borders including federal law enforcement, Customs and Border Protection agents, Secret Service agents, Transportation Security Administration agents, Coast Guard employees and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency staff.

“I will continue to vote in support of re-opening government, in support of strong, smart border security and will work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance real solutions for the people of New Jersey’s Third District.”
